Maritime Resource Management (MRM)

Maritime Resource Management (MRM)™ is a training programme based on research in the human factors area. MRM was initially called Bridge Resource Management (BRM) when it started in 1993 and, through the years, has evolved into what we know today as MRM. It aims at preventing incidents in maritime operations caused by human and organisational errors.

MRM is ideal for deck and engineering officers, maritime pilots and shore-based personnel. The objective is to ensure that everyday operations are supported by sound resource management.

Analysis has shown that a large number of dangerous shipboard situations arise due to poor communication or coordination rather than technical failures or lack of skill. That’s why MRM fosters positive attitudes, good personal communication, excellence in leadership skills and compliance with operating procedures.

MRM training is available in over 35 countries worldwide with over 100 Licenced Training Providers.

Refresher courses are recommended to keep you up-to-date on current issues.

MRM Course Outline/Content

The course is based on CBT modules and discussions. Our Train the Trainer courses give you the necessary tools to successfully conduct your MRM courses within your company. Some course modules are Situation Awareness, Leadership in Emergencies and Human Involvement in Error.

STCW 2010 (Manila Amendments)

The Maritime Resource Management course meets the requirements laid down in the IMO International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended by the 2010 Manila Amendments, in the following areas:

• Table A-II/1 (Bridge resource management)

• Table A-III/1 (Engine room resource management)

• Table A-II/2 and A-III/2 (Leadership and managerial skills)
