In the recently concluded Marine Insurance Course (MIC) held at The Swedish Club office in Gothenburg on 5-9 May 2014, a total of 31 delegates from 12 countries have successfully participated. This annual event aims to provide an opportunity for those working for shipowners, ship managers, marine insurance brokers and club correspondents, to improve their knowledge of marine insurance and learn more about The Swedish Club.

Maritime Resource Management was one of the topics that were presented during the event. This is part of The Swedish Club’s all-in-one package which is focused on its Loss Prevention area. Mr. Martin Hernqvist of The Swedish Club Academy, delivered a 2-hour Introduction to MRM seminar where he discussed “The Impact of Attitudes and Cultures on Maritime Accidents”. An interesting discussion among the group followed right after the presentation.

The MRM programme is designed to improve communication and coordination within the people working onboard the ships as well as the staff on the shore-side through understanding attitudes and different cultures. Establishing a very good company culture that encourages good behavior and attitudes toward safety will not only develop its people but the company as a whole.

With the success of yet another MIC seminar by The Swedish Club, we are positive that more people from the Maritime & Shipping industry will be equipped with the knowledge that were shared during the event.

Mr. Hernqvist asks delegates about the contributing factors in accidents during the Marine Insurance Course.

Mr. Jacob Vierø, The Swedish Club’s Director for Marketing & Business Development, recaps the previous presentations and introduces the next speaker during the event.

Participants during the Marine Insurance Course pay attention to the presentation during the Introduction to MRM seminar.

Interactive discussion with engaging questions asked by the participants made the session very interesting.
