Launching “The Swedish Club Academy”
Following a year where we have welcomed a record number of new MRM training providers, we have reached a point where we have achieved a break-even result from the MRM activities. The Management and the Board of The Swedish Club have closely and with great interest followed the MRM development over the past years and arrived at a conclusion that the further development of MRM and related activities is best carried out within a separate company. This company has just been registered – The Swedish Club Academy AB.
In the new company, the core business will be MRM, not insurance. Still maintaining all the benefits of being closely linked to our hull and P&I business – what we can get and what we can learn from that. The main purposes with the new company will be to safeguard continuity for The Swedish Club and our training partners, an increased focus on course development, additions of value-added services/products, customer satisfaction and, finally, that all these operations are carried out as efficiently as possible. The vision and objectives that we have had with MRM will remain and we foresee only positive consequences of this decision for The Swedish Club and for our clients. I will continue to manage these operations, an offer that I have gladly accepted.

The number of MRM training providers as of 31 December 2009 was 54, distributed in 24 countries. 27 of these training providers are universities and “independent” training institutes, 18 are operated by ship owners/managers, 6 are operated by crew managers and 3 are pilot organisations.
