The IMO issued a News Release on recent developments relating to prevention of accidents involving lifeboats.
The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) approved a proposed draft amendment to SOLAS regulation III/19.3.3.4 concerning provisions for the launch of free-fall lifeboats during abandon-ship drills. Guidance relating to periodic servicing and maintenance of lifeboats and associated appliances and gear was also approved.
