The Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) issued a Circular reminding owners and operators of cargo ships of 3,000 gross tonnage and upwards constructed before 1 July 2002 of the requirement to install a voyage data recorder (VDR).
The VDR must be installed on cargo ships of 20,000 gross tonnage and upwards constructed before 1 July 2002 at the first scheduled drydocking after 1 July 2006 but not later than 1 July 2009. For cargo ships of 3,000 gross tonnage and upwards but less than 20,000 gross tonnage constructed before 1 July 2002, the VDR must be installed at the first scheduled drydocking after 1 July 2007 but not later than 1 July 2010.
